Microwave Mochi
What you will need
- Midsize/large bowl
- spatula or wooden spoon
- microwave
- measuring cup
- measuring spoon
- microwaveable container (I use a glass container with a glass lid)
- Powdered Board (use cacao, matcha, or lightly toasted Glutinous Rice Flour)
Ingredients
- Boiled water 1 Cup
- Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon
- Glutinous Rice Flour 1 Cup
- Sugar 3 Tablespoon
- Salt just a pinch
- Matcha* 2 teaspoon
*matcha can be swapped for cacao powder, using a flavour is recommended but not required. Feel free to experiment with different tastes
Recipe
- Pour vanilla into water and stir
- Whisk dry ingredients in bowl
- Pour liquid into bowl and mix until homogeneous
- Move into Microwavable container
- Microwave for 45 seconds, mix with your spoon of choice, and BEAT IT UP. You’ll see change in colour and texture after microwaving, which is what you want. Try to get the colour homogenous.
- Return to the microwave for another 45 seconds, and repeat the beat. After 3 minutes total (four segments of 45 seconds) take out and continue to beat.
- Once you are happy with the texture, and the colour is homogenous, KEEP BEATING. Do it until you get bored.
- Move onto your powdered board, then chop your mochi into pieces of your desired size. Cover all “sticky sides” with powder so that the mochi pieces are all easy to store and pick up.
- Enjoy! Play around with it. Feel free to use alterations, such as warm milk instead of water, or change up your ratios and whatever you like.
